Five Peaks Virtual Challenge

I'm taking Canteen's Five Peaks Virtual Challenge...

…a month-long challenge to cover 68km in March - the combined trail distance of Australia’s five highest peaks.

Every year, 23,000 young Australians face the mountain that is a cancer journey. Whether facing their own cancer diagnosis, or dealing with a loved one’s cancer journey, climbing that peak means feeling isolated, lost, exhausted, and confused.

It’s terrifying, and no one should face it alone. That’s why I’m challenging myself and I need your support!

Please sponsor me today and make every km count! All funds raised will help young people, facing their hardest climb, get free access to Canteen’s cancer counselling, peer support and specialised in-hospital care.

Thank you for your support!

My Updates

Stuffed, but made my goal

Monday 31st Mar
Officially knackered,  but made it!
A 7km row yesterday evening got me to the top of Mt Bimberi and 3 km into the distance up Mt Kosciuszko.
Have just come back inside after doing the final 10km.
Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me in this challenge, your support of Canteen is wonderful 😀
Will take a break from rowing for a few days, but then back into it as training for national cross country in August until I can run again.

Mt Bimberi, here I come!

Thursday 27th Mar
Made the top of Mt Bogong on Tuesday arvo with a 10km effort and started up Mt Bimberi, continuing that this morning with a bit of a sprint session.  Coming back from Melbourne with a cold/flu didn't help progression last week, but will get up Bimberi by Saturday night (10 km to go), and then see if I can "go up" Kosciuszko again before the challenge finishes on Monday.

On the way up Mt Bogong

Saturday 22nd Mar
6km down, 10 to go the the top.  Replicating running sessions on the rower, today 3 x 1000m efforts, with a 3 min recovery between. Really enjoying doing the rowing - though hadn't thought about my quads getting bigger. Some of my shorts are getting a bit tight!! 😀

3 down, 2 to go

Friday 21st Mar
Made it up Mt Bartle Frere yesterday morning, onto Mt Bogong tomorrow. Have moved from moonboot to hard shoe so right ankle can now move freely making the rowing a bit smoother.

Up and over Kosciuszko

Wednesday 19th Mar
Ended up staying at a hotel in Melbourne with a gym so got to row while away and made it up Kosciuszko. Onwards and upwards to peak number 3!

2nd peak in sight!

Friday 7th Mar
Almost at the top of Kosciuszko, after a mix of steady rowing and faster intervals. Having a break from the rowing for a few days while visiting Melbourne,  but will make the summit with some walking in the cooler weather.

Day 1 done!

Sunday 2nd Mar
Mt Ossa conquered!
